Third Annual Medina Family Awards Made

Alfonso Medina Jr. came to the Marshalltown Community College campus to award the third annual Medina Family Scholarships to two MCC students. Recipients of the $400 scholarships are Andrea Gonzales and Marvin Ruiz Ruano. Their essays about “The American Dream” were selected from all those submitted to be considered.

“We are very pleased to deliver this year’s Medina Family Scholarships to two very outstanding MCC students,” said Medina Jr. “This is our third consecutive year of being able to do so and we hope to continue to provide back to our community through students while investing in local education. This scholarship is funded by candy money purchases from El Portal Mexican Restaurant. We are always thinking of new unique opportunities to expand our positive, progressive influence, thanks to your contributions and loyal repeat business. Requirements for the scholarship can be found in the scholarship foundation section of the MCC website.”

“It is a great honor to have earned this scholarship,” said Ruiz Ruano. “Earning this means I will be less stressed about my finances and I am able to make more educational advancements. This opportunity means the world to me and I will make every dollar count.”

Donors wishing to contribute to or establish scholarship funds are encouraged to contact MCC Foundation Executive Director Carol Geil for more information at 641-844-5747 or Carol.Geil@iavalley.edu. Gifts to the MCC Foundation are always tax-exempt.
